DIY Fall Candles To Fill Your Home

As we ease into fall, you can bring the scents of the season indoors with these homemade scented candles.

Gather Your Materials

Before you get started, make sure you have these items handy:

  • Beeswax pellets
  • A heat-safe, medium-sized container; or a double boiler
  • A small jar for each candle
  • Fragrance ingredients like oils or spices
  • Wicks

Choose Your Scents

There’s a wide range of essential oils, spices, and other aromas out there, and you can mix and match them for a variety of delightful scent combinations. You can also greet the season with fall-appropriate combos like “Autumn Latte,” which features cinnamon, coffee, and vanilla. You might consider “Fall Leaves” with ginger, orange, and patchouli. There’s also “Pumpkin Spice” featuring cinnamon, clove, ginger, and orange.

Melt the Wax

You have two ways to melt the wax, so choose the method that works best for you. If you have a double boiler, you can melt the beeswax pellets as you would chocolate, but if you don’t want to wait for the water to heat up on the stovetop, you can always use a microwave. For the microwave method, use a heat-safe container to melt the pellets in 30-second increments, and stir between each session.

Make the Candles

When the wax is fully fluid, pour in the fragrances you want to use and stir for a couple of minutes until its evenly mixed. Then, pour the wax into your small jar, but not all the way up to the top. Insert the wick into the center and hold it there until it’s set in place. After the wick is in, it should take a couple of hours for the candle to solidify completely.
