It’s always good to keep a few sweet treats available during this time of year. Kid’s are spending more time at home and you never know when someone might pop by to catch up. If you want to have something on hand to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth, bake a big batch of these sugar cookies and watch them disappear.
Ingredients
Gathering the ingredients for this recipe should be relatively easy. Sugar cookies are made with common kitchen staples that shouldn’t require you to run out to the grocery store. But if you would like to jazz them up with decorations you can pick up sprinkles or icing.
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Powdered sugar, for rolling out dough
Step 1: Make the Batter
Making theses sugar cookies is as easy as 1-2-3 — literally. It’s a simple three step recipe that will only take you 15 minutes to prepare. However, you should allow for an extra two hours for the dough to chill.
- Grab a sifter and sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
- Place the butter and sugar in a large stand mixer and beat it until it is light in color.
- Add milk and eggs and continue to beat on a low speed while gradually adding the flour mixture. You’ll know the batter is ready to be chill once it begins to pull away from the side of the bowl.
Step 2: Chill The Dough
Now that the dough is mixed well, divide it in half, wrap it in wax paper and place it in the refrigerator for two hours so that it can cool. When your timer goes off, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

- You can sprinkle the rolling pin with powdered sugar as well then roll out the dough until it is 1/4-inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to cut your cookies in the desired shape and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until they are beginning to turn brown.
- Let the cookies cool then have fun decorating them.
